Ongoing Projects

Our Service Group Program supports community involvement, allowing opportunities for our participants to reach out to children battling cancer, assist needy families locally and help children entering Foster Care plus assist other non-profits. This teaches them to give back to the very community that is helping them.
Assisting Families and Children:
-
Collect new toys for Pediatric Oncology Patients battling cancer and its side effects.
-
Collect new and gently used clothes for needy families.
-
Collect toiletries and food for needy families
-
Collect items for our Buddy Packs for children entering Foster Care
The Buddy Packs are filled with new items that now belong to them. A gift from Katie's House to a child that is feeling alone.
A card is placed in the backpack that reads, 'You Matter.'
Items we provide range from a new soft blanket, gloves, socks, toothbrush, tooth paste, shampoo, soap, school supplies, small puzzles or toys etc. If you could help with collecting some of these items please contact us at the phone number on the Home Page.
Dear Friends of Katie's House,
As part of our effort to support children in need, Katie's House will be collecting gifts for the children receiving treatment in the Pediatric Oncology Department at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, NJ. We are coordinating our efforts with local groups in Newton and the surrounding area. We have been doing this since 1997 when Katie finished her chemo.
Please consider either buying toys/gifts/gift cards or send a donation to Katie's House. Check payable to Katie's House and put in the memo Pediatric Oncology.
Katie's House is a non-profit organization for adults with intellectual disabilities and we believe they too can Make A Difference if given a chance.
Sincerely,
Evelyn Dudziec

Helping Honis

Katie's House provided a one on one staff person to make it possible for Honis to attend summer camp for 2 years. The family put in a request for help since Honis was born with severe facial deformities and blind. He would not be able to attend the camp without Katie's House assistance.

"A Van For Shannen" with a Wheelchair Lift

Shannon, a young woman living in the Newton area with her parents, was born with neurological disabilities, spasticity on her left side and dystonia. Shannon was an active member in activities provided by Katie's House, taking dance, sign and cooking classes and also a member of The Friendship Group.'
Shannon's Dad was battling Parkinson's, Mom lost her job, Hurricane Irene damaged their house and Shannon progressively became less mobile. She no longer could be transported in the family car and needed a van with a wheelchair lift or she would have been housebound.
Katie's House, along with Shannon's friends and family reached out to the community for help in raising money to take some of the burden off the family. $40,000 was raised to widen doorways in the house to allow a wheelchair to be used, a ramp was added outside the house for access and a wheelchair accessible van was purchased.
